If voted to power, we'll remove Vidarbha's backlog: Athawale

BHANDARA: "Vidarbha is rich in natural resources but is still backward
because of the faulty policies and step-motherly treatment of the
Congress-led Democratic Front government. If the Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI
combine is voted to power, we will ensure that adequate funds are
provided for development. We have the backing of the youth. This will
surely change the political scenario in the state," said RPI leader
and architect of Shivashakti and Bhimshakti combine Ramdas Athawale
while addressing the media on Monday.

The former MP was here to attend the anniversary function of Annabhau
Sathe and also to address party workers of the district.

Slamming the Congress-NCP combine for using the RPI for poltical
gains, Athawale defended his party's move to join hands with the two
saffron parties -BJP and Shiv Sena.

"The RPI has joined the Shiv Sena and the BJP and RPI to oust the
Congress-NCP government which has been ruling the state since 20
years. The Congress-NCP used Dalits to come to win the elections but
kept us out of power and position. Dalits have suffered maximum
atrocities in Congress-ruled states. Their aspirations have also been
suppressed. We will launch a tirade against the government on burning
issues like corruption, rising prices and injustice against the
Dalits. The common man is fed up of the government and wants a change
at the helm," said Athawale.

Citing an example, Athawale said, "Voters have become wise. They have
realised that the Congress-NCP is only interested in achieving power
by hook or crook. We (the alliance) made a good start by registering a
win in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. There are many
Dalit voters in the state and this will help the alliance in the
state."

On the controversial movie Arakshan which highlights the issue of
reservation, Athawale said, "Arakshan is a film based on the
reservation policy of the government. It's a film by director Prakash
Zha and the main role is played by Amitabh Bachhan. I have a lot of
respect and regard for Amitabhji but before the film's release, there
will be a special screening for leaders of various political parties,
including the RPI. If we find some scene or dialogues objectionable or
something that would harm social harmony then we will oppose it," said
Athawale.
