MRPS activists burn effigy

Scores of activists of the dalit outfit Madiga Reservation Porata
Samiti (MRPS) took out a protest march on the arterial trunk road here
on Sunday to press for the immediate arrest of TRS MLA T. Harish Rao
in connection with the assault on an Andhra Bhavan official in New
Delhi.

The activists, led by its State General Secretary U. Brahmaiah Madiga,
raised slogans demanding invocation of the provisions of the SC/ST
Atrocities (Prevention) Act against the TRS leader notwithstanding the
apology tendered by the latter.

They set fire to the effigy of Harish Rao in front of the Ambedkar
statue to condemn the alleged 'high-handed' behaviour of the TRS
leader.

The MRPS leaders pressed for a deterrent punishment to the TRS leader
to prevent recurrence of such attacks.
