Develop suitable Ambedkar memorial in Delhi: Chouhan to Centre

Chouhan today appealed to the Centre to develop Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar
Rashtriya Smarak in New Delhi befitting the status of the great
leader.In case the Centre is not willing to do so, the MP Government
is ready to take over the development of the memorial, he said in a
letter to Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul
Wasnik.The Chief Minister said the Centre purchased the building,
where the architect of the Constitution breathed his last in 1956, in
2003 and declared it as a national memorial.Maintaining that the place
was lying in a state of neglect, Chouhan reminded Wasnik that the site
was to be remodelled and developed as `Parinirwan Bhumi'.In a separate
letter to Defence Minister A K Antony, Chouhan requested that the
defence land near the Ambedkar memorial at Mhow, where the Dalit icon
was born, be transferred to the MP Government for its further
development.He said a suitable piece of land will be made available to
the Defence Ministry in lieu of it.Chouhan thanked Antony for
instructing the Army authorities to stop construction work on the
defence land and appealed to him to give necessary directions to take
a final decision on the land.
