Exhibition depicts little-known facets of the architect of the Constitution

BANGALORE: The images in the photographs may be blurred and faded but
their importance can never be overstated.

Over 80 photos

More than 80 black-and-white photographs, decades old, of B.R.
Ambedkar are on display at Ashwini Hall in NIMHANS here.

The two-day exhibition, organised by the National Institute of Mental
Health and Neuro Science (NIMHANS) and the NIMHANS SC/ST Employees'
Association, has some rare photographs of the architect of the Indian
Constitution.

The exhibition is being held as part of Ambedkar's birth anniversary
celebrations.

P. Satish Chandra, Director and Vice-Chancellor, NIMHANS, inaugurated
the show on Wednesday.

Historic events

The historic photographs, from the collection of Directorate of
Advertisement and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Mumbai, depict momentous
events such as the Kalaram temple entry satyagraha staged at Nashik
under Ambedkar's leadership (1930); the satyagraha at Mahad against
preventing 'untouchables' drinking water at public ponds; Ambedkar
taking oath as Law Minister in the Jawaharlal Nehru Cabinet; and the
presentation of the Bharata Ratna Award (posthumous).

Inaugurating the exhibition, Prof. Chandra said that Ambedkar,
throughout his life, struggled to eradicate inequality in society and
advocated equal opportunities for all. The exhibition is aimed at
creating awareness among the public on the great man's contribution to
humanity.
